Cinder’s Cradle and the full map

Every Shroud Root, Elixir Well and Flame Shrine in 1.0 is on our interactive map. The map post has the counts.

All of Embervale is open now. North past Veilwater Basin is Cinder’s Cradle, a new biome with two layers: a lava wasteland of ruins below, and floating Ancient islands above. According to Keen:

  • It sits between Blackmire and Veilwater Basin in size and adds 12 Shroud Roots.
  • New edge areas in the Springlands, Blackmire and Kindlewastes add 6 more Shroud Roots.
  • Two new Hollow Halls opened, in the Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin.
  • The Cinder’s Cradle faction brings 14 new enemy types, and 37 new enemies in total once you count new variants in other factions.
  • The main story ends, “for now”.

The 1.0 files already have Cinder’s Cradle materials like Cinder Rock and Cinder's Cradle Sand, a new fish, Cinderscale, and the Archaic Lockpick for the new higher-tier locks.

Progression

  • Max level 50, with gear upgradable to 55.
  • A new Flame level raises the Flame Altar cap to 15. Flame level 11 raises it to 16. Keen also says beating the biggest threat in Embervale unlocks another Flame level that lets altars shine in areas they couldn’t reach before, pushing back the Shroud.
  • A new survivor, the Ancient Researcher, brings Ancient recipes.
  • Armour set recipes now unlock automatically with each Flame upgrade.
  • The skill tree resets the first time you load an older save. Our skill tree guide covers all 231 skills, and the skill tree planner lets you plan your 212 points.

Combat

  • 9 new spell types, and every spell now has an eternal version. Eternal spells and arrows can be upgraded like gear.
  • You can summon skeletons, and new Necromancy gems and skills support summoner builds.
  • Wands get a heavy attack, unlockable evasive and aerial attacks, and a free-aim mode.
  • New skills: Aerial Wand Attack, Wand Evasion Attack, Advanced Necromancy, Totem Mastery, Blast and Cast, Puncture, Barrage and Survival Instinct.
  • The Albaneve Summits boss got a big health nerf and better openings for melee.

Building, Sparkworks and quality of life

  • Sparkworks is a logic system with a 2D graph editor for switches, traps, puzzles and encounters. Its tools come from the new Sparkworks Workbench.
  • Airborne Architect lets you build in a free-flying mode.
  • Most former no-build zones now allow bases.
  • Storage chests can be upgraded in place and named. Custom map markers can be named too.
  • Holding interact picks up all scattered loot nearby, and a setting can make it automatic.
  • Lore notes are voiced in English, German and Mandarin Chinese and can be queued like an audiobook. Main survivors and quest givers are voiced too.

Fishing rework

Keen says every fish can now be caught in every body of water, bait tier decides which tier bites, and improved bait guarantees a same-tier fish. The fishing guide lists all 15 fish, every rod and every bait recipe.

Graphics and saves

  • A new “brick renderer” keeps distant terrain and voxel builds detailed. 1.0 also adds HDR, better global illumination and lower memory use.
  • 1.0 uses a new, smaller save format. Saves from 0.8 or earlier are backed up and migrated automatically.
  • Local saves are in C:\Users\<you>\Saved Games\keen games\Enshrouded\default. The menus now let you choose between local and Steam Cloud saves.
