Game icons for Shroud Adhesive, Giant Critter Scales, Fossilized Bone, Amber, Goo, Resin and Lump of Clay on a dark grid.

Seven materials hold up a lot of mid-game crafting in Enshrouded: Shroud Adhesive, Giant Critter Scales, Fossilized Bone, Amber, Goo, Resin and Lump of Clay. This guide covers where each one comes from.

Recipes, drop tables and odds come from the 1.0 game files. The game files don’t say where in the world a deposit or enemy sits, so locations come from the Enshrouded wiki and are marked as such.

How to get Shroud Adhesive

The wiki says Shroud Adhesive drops from Shroud Flayers, first found in the Nomad Highlands. In the game files:

Drop table (game-file name)AmountChance
Fog Tentacle Solo drops1 to 3100%
Tentacle Shroud Adhesive animated harvest (a harvestable plant)2 to 4100%

The game files don’t name these enemies or plants in English, so we can’t confirm which table is which in-game creature.

Grow it at home. Once you have some, plant it. The Shroud Flayer Seedling recipe at the Seedbed takes 1 Acidic Mycelium, 1 Shroud Adhesive and 1 Shroud Infused Farm Soil, and takes 180 seconds. The wiki lists the seedling as a source of Shroud Adhesive.

What it’s for: 23 recipes that make 20 different items, including the Extraordinary Glider (15 Shroud Adhesive at the Carpenter). Keen’s 1.0 changelog says the glider now needs less adhesive than before.

How to get Giant Critter Scales

The wiki says they drop from the Fell Critter Queen, first found in Revelwood. Two drop tables in the game files include her head (one, two). Each gives, at 100%:

What they’re for: 7 recipes: six chest armour pieces (Adventurer Chest, Cutthroat Chest, Healer Tunic, Mage Chest, Ranger Vest and Tank Chestplate) and the Ghostly Ward.

Normal critters are still useful later. Keen’s 1.0 changelog says their parts now craft Chitin Powder: 3 Critter Parts or Critter Carapace make 3 at the Grinding Stones.

How to get Fossilized Bone

Fossilized Bone isn’t in any loot table in the 1.0 files, so you mine it. The wiki says it comes from giant bones in the Nomad Highlands and the Kindlewastes, and points to a giant rib cage west of the Nomad Highlands Ancient Spire.

You can grind it into Fossilized Bone Dust:

StationInputOutputTime
Mill1 Fossilized Bone5 Fossilized Bone Dust300 s
Grinding Stones1 Fossilized Bone3 Fossilized Bone Dust600 s

The Mill gives more dust in half the time.

What it’s for: 32 recipes that make 31 items, from Fossilized Bone Arrow to the Loom and Spinning Wheel.

How to get Amber

Amber isn’t in any loot table or recipe output, so mining is the only source. The wiki says it’s mined from red amber veins in the Revelwood Shroud, with several deposits in the deep Shroud cavity between Abandoned Hunter Camp and Hidden Hollow Tomb, north of the Revelwood Ancient Spire.

Watch your Shroud timer while you mine.

What it’s for: 42 recipes that make 26 items, including fire spells and all 7 items that need Giant Critter Scales.

How to make Goo

Goo is crafted, not gathered. At the Alchemist with the Mortar placed:

InputCount
Springlands Dirt1
Shroud Mushroom2
Bug Dust1
Makes1 Goo

The Mortar is the reward from the quest The Alchemist's Mortar. The quest text says it’s hidden in the Alchemist Tower in Lone Thistle, below the surface. The Alchemist can also craft a Mortar from 10 Lump of Clay, 3 Sulfur, 2 Nitrate, 5 Charcoal and 5 Sand.

What it’s for: 37 recipes that make 31 items, including Flammable Goo: at the Laboratory, 5 Tar, 1 Shroud Vapor, 1 Coal and 1 Goo make 5 in 300 seconds.

How to get Resin

The wiki says Resin comes from chopping trees, faster from trees with red leaves. You can grow those at home: at the Seedbed, 1 Farm Soil and 1 Twigs make 5 Revelwood Red Leaf Seedling in 180 seconds.

The game files also have Resin in loot:

SourceAmountChance
Locked Materials chest50100%
Locked Materials Early Game chest5100%
Corpse Vukah container1 to 3 per roll30 to 33% per roll
Some wildlife drops1 to 330 to 33%

What it’s for: 88 recipes that make 84 items, the most of any material here: torches, braziers, fire spells and lots of furniture.

How to get Lump of Clay

Clay isn’t in any loot table either. The wiki says it’s mined from clay deposits, common in Revelwood. They look like large orange-brown clumps of mud.

What it’s for: 57 recipes that make 57 items. The important ones are stations:

  • Kiln: 50 Revelwood Stone, 10 Lump of Clay, 10 Metal Scraps and 2 Twigs at the Carpenter.
  • Fired Bricks: 1 Lump of Clay and 1 wood at the Kiln. The Blast Furnace needs 20 of them, plus 10 more Lump of Clay.
  • The Mortar for the Alchemist (10 Lump of Clay), and a long list of pots, vases and other clay decorations.
